Abstract

Media language is a reading challenge cause it is hidden by multimodality (Begioni et al., 1999) and recurrence (Szymaniac, 1999) –the same message is transmitted simultaneously in different ways-. Although, this language is as hidden as the structures and messages of books. From this perspective, this paper tries, firstly, to make a comparison between the challenge of understanding media and the effort of reading, secondly to talk about what means to be a media competent reader and finally, to do a reflection about the changes that this kind of literacy could mean in the future teachers’ professional development.
