Abstract
A marginal note in the so-called Mozarabic “Chronicle of 754”, written in Latin, makes caliph Yazīd II responsible for implementing an order of his predecessor ‘Umar II aiming at the destruction of images on the walls of the churches. It is the oldest preserved reference to the iconoclast edict of Yazīd. The textual context of this notice is analysed and a possible origin in a lost Omayyad source is suggested.
