Abstract
The obtaining of merchantable volume is very expensive in number of trees and observations made since it does not consider the invariant characteristics associated to each analysed species (morphologic characteristics common in the species), when summarizing all the information of the tree in a number (volume of the tree). The modelling techniques in the forestry arise from the necessity to reduce to the units samples (trees) but without this entails a loss in the obtained precision. As result of the use of these techniques for the calculation of merchantable volume on Populus x euramericana (Dode) Guinier I-214 of the valley of the Cinca (Huesca), has processed a software (Cubica) to calculate the total and merchantable volume and log qualities from the data of a forest inventory, using a taper function of variable exponent.
