Zusammenfassung

This study describes and compares attitudes and knowledge about aging in higher education students of Coimbra and each of these constructs with the variables gender, age, course of origin, academic experiences living and working with seniors. The sample consisted of 592 students representing 1.8% of the total population. Form part of the research a questionnaire to collect sociodemographic data, life experiences with older people and learning paths; Inventory Sheppard (1986), in the version adapted and validated by Neri, Cachioni and Resende (2002) to assess the attitudes in relationship to age and Palmore Facts on Aging Quiz Palmore (1999) version of Palmore-Neri-Cachioni to assess the basic knowledge about old age. The results obtained are: a) positive attitudes, especially in older students, and women who live with elderly b) Students attending courses in health show more positive attitudes and more knowledge c) positive attitudes and knowledge and significantly correlated.
