Resumo

We performed a study on the selective use of cork-industry wastes and their integral valorization, based on their characteristics and possibilities of use. The analyzed wastes were the following: cooking water, boiler sludges, cork scrapes, mill lands, cork powder and cork powder impregnated with glue. Respect to cooking water, the analysis was based on three different lines of action. Firstly, quantification and characterization of the effluent was performed to determine the most significant parameters of contamination. Secondly, a model for the management of waste water in a conventional Wastewater-Treatement Plant (WWTP) was implemented. Its functioning was evaluated by the evolution of the analyzed parameters. Finally, we carried out the design and launching of a system for evaporation and drying of wastewater, which was integrated in a plant for cooking cork by using renewable energy. Respect to the use of solid wastes, we have carried out the quantification and physical-energy characterization of wastes and of their further densified. Additionally, different scenarios for waste combination were defined various objectives, from the complete removal of all wastes to obta product with improved characteristics, to the obtaining of multiple var of the product with greater possibilities to use e.g. the cork powder.
