Abstract

Having the Mishel uncertainty scale in the Spanish context can provide nurses with the clues to know renal patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment. The aim of this study is to do a cross-cultural adaptation in the Mishel uncertainty scale concerning hemodialysis patients in Jaén. An adaptation in the scale by means of a translation- backward translation was made and the validity in contents through the experts consensus was calculated. To calculate the psychometric properties the scale was administered to 116 patients. The constructo validity was calculated by factor analysis, interobserver correspondence by means of Kappa index and the internal consistency considering the Cronbach Alpha coefficient. The Spanish version of Mishel uncertainty scale has proved to have suitable psycometric properties, being considered an useful tool to measure uncertainty in a patient undergoing hemodialysis.
