Ensayos sobre economías de adaptación y eficiencia

Résumé

This doctoral dissertation consists of four essays on technical and economic efficiency in four relevant sectors of the Spanish and European economy. The analyzed period ranges from the late twentieth century (1993 and 1997 in the essays on port industry and construction industry, respectively) and early twenty-first century (2003 and 2004 on the essays on road transport industry and the airline sector, respectively) to 2012 (latest available data). Using SFA methods, it discusses the effects of a changing economic environment on the efficiency of the companies that make up each sector analyzed. The relationship between business strategy followed and the efficiency achieved is also analyzed. Finally, the factors that are positively correlated to the efficiency levels are identified.
