Resumen

The aim of this study was to analyze the evolution of the handgrip strength on field (AC) and assistant (AA) soccer referees during official matches. 12 AC and 24 AA who officiated 12 matches of the Spanish Third Division participated in this study. Before starting the matches (Pre), at the end of the first half (Des) and after the match (Post), the handgrip strength of the dominant and non-dominant arm of each participant was measured, using the handgrip test. AA showed a significant decrease (p<0,01) of the handgrip strength on the dominant and non-dominant arm both at Des and Post in comparison with Pre. However, AC did not show these differences. These results suggest, despite the action of holding the pennant is not essential for soccer refereeing, the inclusion of specific training exercises on AA in order to minimize this fatigue.
