Abstract
We present in this paper the spectroscopic characterization of natural talc from Charches (Granada) using Raman and IR techniques in the spectral range 4000-50 c m 1. The assignment of the observed bands is based on the correlation of an idealized unit cell with Ca symmetry. New results from the OH vibration and libration bands arise by deconvolution of the band profiles using Fourier transform methods. These results allow us to establish a correlation between the cationic substitution in the octahedral and tetrahedral layers as deduced from chemical and XRD analysis and the modifications observed in frequencies and intensities.
