Resum

The shadow of that unique, exceptional cattle breed from León, the mantequera, can still be sensed on the Eastern Mountain. In the memory of its people revives, as clearly as in this photograph taken in the town of Cistierna (León) in the early 1960s by the photographer Dalmacio Callado, beginning of its decline by the introduction of foreign breeds. Yoked in the traditional way two cows, of the popularly known as mantequeras, await at the entrance of the stand of Gabriel Rodríguez, cartwright, a missed profession as well. In the background, behind the walnut, the headquarters of the Front of Youth, now the town Public Library and future seat of the Biblical and Oriental Institute of León. Behind this one, the house of Angel Cuesta, who was deputy mayor of the town, and whose daughter is the girl who runs in the upper left margin of the photograph: Agustina Cuesta
