Abstract

Teacher identity research requires two categories to be taken into account: gender and historical context. This work discusses the biography of 66 teachers in Early Childhood Education to discover how gender experiences mark their trajectories and make them understand education from the stereotype. Focusing on family and school experiences, we discover that they choose the profession due to social, political and family influence. The roles and stereotypes learned can favour the reproduction of the hegemonic social structure and a differentiated education for each sex. It is important to reflect on their previous experiences in order to favour an educational model free of gender biases.
