Abstract

The concept of «Confessionalization» has become a commonplace in the historiography of Early Modern Europe. The present paper deals with the origins, development, difficulties of that concept and with the debates around in within German historiography since the 1960s until the present day. The main traits of this concept, its connection with other overall abstractions, as well as its limits and the criticisms that this conceptualization has received are also part this article.
