Abstract

The contents of the regional official curricula of Primary Education related to Earth Sciences are analyzed in this paper. The main aims are: 1) to find out if the presence of these contents and their sequencing and development are consistent with the principles of literacy in Earth sciences. 2) to check if they reflect, depending on the corresponding level, the great ideas in Earth science (its basic approaches), the concepts that support them or the conceptual basis that will serve for later educational stages. Based on the results, a series of recommendations and suggestions are made to those responsible for setting up the legal texts related to the curricula and to the authors of textbooks, so that the Earth Sciences may have a more visible presence. Also, it seeks to guide in-service teachers and teachers in training in contents related to the Earth Sciences
