Resumen

This paper describes broadly the physiological mechanisms that provide a normal hearing, which is an essential introduction to understand the processes that cause hearing loss. The study is based on a set of one hundred patients that suffer from different types of deafness, and then, it describes the inclusion and exclusion criteria applied for selecting the subjects. As a result of the study, the percentages of each type of hearing loss are discovered, considering those which occur by middle ear pathology or those which are dependent on the auditory neuro-sensorial system. Then, the kind of medical, surgical, or prosthetic treatment is specified. Thereupon, the obtained data are discussed leading to the general conclusions.
