Resumen
Introduction and objectives: The prevalence of adverse drug reactions in pluri-pathologic and polymedicated patients is really high, with important morbidity and use of health resources and its main cause is the potentially inappropriate prescription of medicines. This impacts patients on dialysis, from which we have few information on PPI. It is for this reason that we decided to carry out a study in order to evaluate this problem in our Hospital (CAZA). Methology: A review of the pharmacotherapeutic histories of 103 patients was carried out in our center, by applying the STOPP/START criteria (version 2) as well Beers criteria (2015 version), and comparing the results obtained by both methodologies. Results: 99 PPI were detected according to STOPP criteria, 132 omissions of prescription according to START criteria and 78 PPI as per Beers criteria. Following STOPP criteria, at least one PPI was found among 54 patients (52, 5%), according to START criteria at least one PPO within 44 (42, 7%), and 56 as per Beers criteria (54, 3%) presented at least 1 PPI. The 2 PPI which were more frequently observed were the use of proton pumps inhibitors (IBP) as well as the use of benzodiazepines. Discussion: Our study showed a high frequency of PPI and PPO on dialysis patients. The simultaneous application of the Beers and STOPP/START criteria constitutes a useful tool to improve the prescription on this group of patients.
