Abstract

We have analyzed the intraocular tolerance of non purified silicone oil and medical grade oil three mounths after the injection of these substances into the vitreous cavity of aphakic and vitrectomised rabbit eyes. We have also have studied the tolerance of low molecular weight compounds (decametilciclopentasoxano and octametiltetrasiloxano) when they are injected into the anterior chamber. These compounds are present in both oils but the concentration is different in each oil. The results of the present work show that SNP is worse than SGM and it could be due to the LMWC. These results also could explain the clinical and experimental differences observed in the literature with the use of silicone oil.
