Abstract

Objectives. To know the prevalence in Benavente and region. To analyze the distribution of the cases. To describe where they were followed-up and controlled. To analyze the clinical, laboratory and radiological variables. Material and methods. Descriptive and cross-sectional epidemiological study. Included were all the patients recorded as “Disease due to coronavirus” in MEDORA of the two basic Health areas of Benavente. A computerized registry was maintained with all the confirmed positive cases, hospitalized and monitored in their homes or in the Residencia Mixta Pública (Mixed Public Residence) of the Area of North Benavente. Results. Of the 229 cases recorded up to 10 April 2020 in MEDORA, disease was confirmed by PCR in 142 (62 %). Of the 229 registries, 54 were institutionalized (23.58%). Of these, 38 had confirmed disease by PCR (70.37 %). Of the 175 patients who were not institutionalized, 102 had PCR confirmed disease (58.28 %). Comments. We have based the investigation on these 175 non-institutionalized subjects. The prevalence of the disease in regards to the registered population is 0.84%. The death rate, including the institutionalized patients, is 5.67%, and is 2.85% without the latter. Conclusions. Prevalence and death from the disease in our Basic Area is acceptable. COVID-19 has been contained in a very high percentage in the primary care setting, due to the extraordinary protocolized work that could be done thanks to the close monitoring of the patients. Undoubtedly, this has guaranteed adequate care to the patient, the progressive knowledge of his/her disease and its control.
