Abstract
The historiographical analysis shows that the lexical and grammatical codification of nouns designating persons has experimented a deep readjustment in the contemporary era. It is assumed, until the middle of the 19th Century, that the substantive, unlike the adjective, is invariable to gender inflection. For many centuries, gender endings of the substantive were interpreted as derivative endings. In contrast to the inflectional gender of the adjective, the derivative gender creates new lexical units registered as different dictionary entries.
