Most European countries have different legal requirements concerning acoustic performance of buildings. Besides, building acoustic classification schemes or proposals already exist in many countries. The diversity of indicators, limits, classification schemes has led to a harmonization initiative. Several different scientific institutions related to acoustics in Europe have launched a COST project in order to coordinate and share investigation and experience in this field. The goal is to eventually develop a harmonized proposal for acoustics indicators, limits and performance of buildings as well as harmonized classification scheme. The purpose of this paper is to present the scope of the COST action as well as to activate the debate within the Spanish acousticians.
