Abstract

The main purpose of this work is to establish a methodology to appreciate how citizens perceive noise and its effects. This is done in order to determine perception conflicts, most annoying sound sources, dose-effect correlation and eventually follow up existing Action Plans. The procedure has five main stages: Survey design; Field work; Data analysis; Dose-effect correlation; Sample stratification. The procedure has been applied to the population of Málaga (Spain) and the results have shown that 54% of the population is highly annoyed by noise. Traffic noise has turned out to be the main annoying sound source.
