Abstract

In an economy driven by innovation and knowledge, the regional economic dynamism depends, in a great extent, on the innovating capacity of firms and peoples entrepreneurship. For that reason, the creation of technology-base firms and the role of University can have on their creation and later development becomes a relevant matter. Thus, the University has extended its traditional education and research mission and getting deeper commitment with the social and economic development of their surroundings. Within this background, the communication analyses the relation between University and other interface institutions and small enterprises that operate in technologically advanced sectors for the case of Castilla y León. The specific objective consists on the identification of patterns of behaviour in the co-operation relationships between University and small enterprises of mentioned sectors. With regards to the used methodology, the information has been generated through a survey to small enterprises of Castilla y León that develop their activity in sectors of high and medium-high technology level, in agreement with the classification used by the National Institute of Statistic. The used technique to verify different hypotheses, which are shown also by other researches, has been the discriminate analysis. The conclusions indicate that the size is a factor that affects the co-operation relations, as well as the technological level and the sector of activity.
