La técnica lexicográfica empleada por el franciscano Maturino Gilberti en su Vocabulario en lengua de Michoacán (1559)

Résumé

The Franciscan Matutino Gilberti is one of the missionaries who evangelized Mexico in the 16th century. Although he knew seven indigenous languages, he is best known for his work in Tarascan or Purepecha, which he systematized in the first grammar and dictionary of this language, the Vocabulario en lengua de Michoacán (1559). This bilingual bidirectional work is the object of our attention. We will analyze how he presents the headwords and lexical equivalents from L1 to L2 (Tarasco-Spanish, Spanish-Tarasco). Gilberti chose to follow the techniques used in the European Renaissance lexicographical repertoires of classical and vernacular languages that circulated in the New World.
