Resumen
This chapter elaborates on the concept of lexicographic equivalence with the aim of presenting the practice of equivalence in teaching/learning situations, e.g. in a typical Spanish high school. In particular, this chapter describes the different types of lexicographic data that can offer teachers and learners clues on possible differences between lemma and equivalent. It also comments on the possibilities of the different datasets with illustrations taken from the Gran Diccionario Oxford español-inglés/ingles-español. The new edition of this dictionary serves well for the purpose of the chapter because (a) it includes coverage in specialist vocabulary and EU terminology, which is really key in today’s world, and (b) it also covers information on cultural aspects regarding the practicalities of living in Spanish- and English-speaking countries.
