Resumen

My contribution to this Conference is a report concerning the translation of internal documents of the Franciscan Order. The image of patient and inspired monastic translation is here challenged by the professionalized performance of a number of translators who daily assist their multi-lingual community with its processes of inter-communication. Defining internal translation from a theoretical point of view is beyond our reach given the variety of genres that these translators have to face, from the deep theological reflections emerging from conferences, to the rather practical information provided by the newsletters. There is, nevertheless, one common factor to all these contributions, which happens to be a fundamental component for the creation, renovation and maintenance of a Franciscan identity and charisma: this is what we have referred to as a phatic function in internal translation.
