Abstract

Due to the recent reinforcement of the Spanish Building Regulation Code, and more precisely, the basic document dealing with noise (Documento Básico Protección Frente al Ruido (DB-HR) - Código Técnico de la Edificación) we consider that it is very convenient to compare the results obtained using two different procedures suggested in the official document (DB-HR) to real in situ results. It is ourintention to compare the results obtained with the general and simplified opctions described in the DB-HR, to experimental values obtained “in situ” in 80 different recently built dwellings. The building where the dwellings are located is divided in three different areas. We have measured several types ofpartitions: floors, inner walls, façades, separating common areas...The DB-HR simplified model is easy to use and understand. It does not require having important acoustic knowledge, BUT its fundamental idea is to over dimension the building elements considering their acoustic performance. From our experimental results we have observed that several constructive solutions are not allowed (do not comply with) in the simplified model, but do comply if they are studied using the general option. Besides, several sound and vibration measurements have been made in equipment rooms and it has been seen that they do not meet the DB-HR requirements. These results lead us to conclude that further research is needed and that the building construction methods need tobe revised in order to comply with the existing regulations.
