Abstract
César Silió was the most significant member of the Conservative Party in Valladolid after the death of D. Germán Gamazo, although his political power on a local level was due to his connection with a prime figure of national politics rather than to his ability to exert an influence in Valladolid, where Santiago Alba controlled the means of local power. As to the whole of the political elite of Valladolid, César Silió's presence implied a division to be taken into account, for he introduced some innovative elements, mainly economic ones which nevertheless were unable to cause a transformation as far as political behaviour and attitudes are concerned.
