Abstract

In August 1600, while the return of the court was being negotiated, celebrations were held to honour Philip III's arrival in Valladolid. This was an opportunity to show the city's potentialities and to answer back Madrid' s claim that Valladolid was unable to hold the councils. By means of both agreements reached in the town hall and the "steward's" accounts, this paper analyses the way in which the Crown-granted 39.167 ducados and 15 maravedís were invested.
