Abstract
The elite that controlled the political life in Valladolid from the beginning of the twentieth century until Primo de Rivera's dictatorship presents a series of features that distinguish it from the preceding group of leaders. From a political point of view, the power is handed over from Gamazo to Santiago Alba, who became a character of national scope and even acceded to the Government and led one of the factions into which the liberal party had dissolved as from 1918. Apart from its different origin, the components of this elite were attached to the process of growth of Valladolid, in which they took an active part and which they used as an instrument of political power.
