Abstract

The presence of Spain in Morocco in the first third of the XXth century and the problems derived from it -of which the disaster of Annual constitutes the clearest and the most tragical exponent- had a deep repercussion in the crisis of the Restoration system, as well as the problems and the shortcomings of the said system contributed to explain the fatal outcome of the Moroccan question in the events of July 1921. About the aforementioned disaster a reflection can be articulated not only on the reasons and vicissitudes of the Spanish presence in Morocco at the beginning of the XXth century, but, very especially, on the way in which all this contributed to undermine the already severely damaged foundations of the political system established in Spain in 1876.
