Zusammenfassung
Led by Santiago Alba, the elite that held control of the political life of Valladolid from the beginning of the twentieth century took an active part in the process of modernization of the city throughout this period, which was used as a means of political ascent. The close relationship between the political and economic groups which this article attempts to show was such that can't be a clear-cut distinction can be made.
