Zusammenfassung
In order to refer to a new reality, in this case, a serious illness, sixteenth-century medical autorities writing in Latin would not draw upon tthe one universally accepted technicism. The absence of such a single technical term allows us to trave back the origin and to follow the spread of the various lexical referents, so as to analyse their typology.
