Abstract
The goal of the paper is twofold. First, it explores the relation between company strategy and its adaptation needs to a dynamic environment, and second, it evaluates the imitation question. Thus, we try to test if firm strategy is the result of its own adaptation or the result of other firms strategic behavior imitation. Our model has been tested for the market strategy developed by Spanish Saving Banks from 1986 to 1995. Our results validate the model and the existence of both behaviors, adaptation and imitation, within firms strategies. Furthermore, we have found out a diversity of factors which affect firms strategy. Finally, we stress the relevance of resource-based view and evolutionary economics approaches to complete the strategic analysis
