Abstract

The college was founded due to Juan Velarde's, by which they created six scholarships for students of the same condition as himself, and it is the aim of the analysis of this paper. It is a little college which had the purpose to perdure more than two centuries, in the atmosphere of Valladolid where these secular centers were not very common. Its way of life was fed by the example of Santa Cruz high school, to which they imitated as far as they could. Referred to its administration, it was almost completely in the hands of the ecclesiastic authorities, as their protectors were churchmen who knew how to monopolize the government of this household. In consequence, the academic authorities remained very distant from this small college, although they included it in their hearts, providing it with their jurisdiction, in the same way as they did so with their students studying at the University of Valladolid.
