Abstract
Mankind has always used language as a means of enacting the powers offered by it to attract beneficial forces as well as to react against malignant ones. As such, language acts through the principle of opposition. This work analyses the most recurrent linguistic devices found in metaphor, oaths and swearing, conjuration and exorcism.
