Resum

Information about the presence of groups of gypsies or ‘Egyptians’ in Spain over the course of the fifteenth century from diverse sources, particularly the ‘letters of security’ or safe-conducts the kings issued, understanding that the gypsies were pilgrims who went to Santiago, until the decree of 1499 that ordered them to leave Castile unless they established residences and known trades. A comparison with the experiences of gypsies years earlier in the area of the Empire, where they had ‘letters of security’ from the kings of Hungary and the Emperors themselves.
