Abstract
Cervantes knew that the author of Avellaneda's Don Quijote was the soldier Jerónimo de Pasamonte, born in Aragon. In addition, he had access to the manuscript of Avellaneda's continuation before writing ¿El coloquio de los perros.¿ In his novela ejemplar there are numerous allusions to and quotes from both Avellaneda's Don Quijote and Pasamonte's Vida.
