Abstract

In his Crónica de Indias, Juan Suárez de Peralta relates the civil riot that was staged by Martin Cortés and other members of the Spanish nobility against the colonial government in Mexico, at about 1566. The Castilian account has several points in common with the classic texts that treat the catilinarian conspiracy (63 b. C.), the most famous conspiracy of the Antiquity.
