Abstract

The paper analyses Borges's critical ideas on Poe's literary works. ].L. Borges wrote several essays and reviews on Poe's works all throughout his life. He focuses on his narrative but also on his poetical and critical works. A close reading of Borges's writings provide a clear idea about his critical appreciation and the influence that the American author exerted on him. Short fiction is preferred by the Argentinean and, within this subgenre, detective stories are more closely studied. Borges gives us a free account of Poe's literary importance based on his own aesthetic ideas without taking into account other critical and scholar appreciations of his time.
