Resum

This article describes an experience that applies the IT (Information Technology) to the learning process within a course of Communication Theory. The main objective was to develop didactic modules that would allow the student to better understand the contents taught within the course. Those didactic modules were made up by multimedia educational materials used to present the theoretical contents complemented by exercises to be developed in a virtual laboratory. The basic tool of the virtual laboratory is an oscilloscope and spectrum analyser developed using Java 1.2 (or Java 2) and executable as an applet embeded in an HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) code which facilitates the access from any PC with Internet connection, an adequate browser and the Java virtual machine, but without the need of any hardware component like a data acquisition card or a function generator. The developed tool allows to represent any signal in the time and the frequency domains, and to modify, in an easy way, different parameters to observe the effect of this modification on the represented signal
