Abstract
This article presents a thorough study of those contents, tools and environments that were interlaced in the weaving process that created the medieval traditions and legends of Christian Spain. It also questions the way history was perceived at that time, and is specially devoted to the imagery reflected by diplomas and chronicles from the ninth to the twelfth centuries at the kingdoms of Castile and Leon. Three main principles are submitted to discussion: the Visigothic legacy, the colonization of territory and the war against the Muslims.
