Abstract

The current holm oaks of Quercus ilex subsp. ballota (Desf.) Samp. in Bol. in the Mediterranean scope of the Iberian Peninsula and in the ample space of the plains and mountains of the Autonomous Comunity of Castilla y León are in great part the result of the human intervention in the vegetation. Specifically, it gives testimony to the reforestation from XVIth century until the first half of the twentieth century, passing through the age of documentary splendour and of real activity in the mid eighteenth century. Moreover, during the XXth century it can be noted that some holm oaks, as pure forest earth, are the consequence of protection carried out by rural social groups. So that, the holm oaks, don't consist of neither the primitive forest nor the indigenous forest par excellence of the Iberian vegetation.
