Abstract
The dynamics of forest fires in Castile and Leon between 1983 and 2005 is analyzed, an extensive period that allows to study the evolution of the number of fires, of the burned surface and of the causes in which they are supported in this region, bordering with Galicia, and of behaviour similar to the Galicians. The key of these facts is in the conflicts of interests between the rural inhabitants and the various administrative bodies, sometimes overlapping and non-matching criteria, making it difficult to establish clear guidelines. On the other hand, forest fires have always been regarded by farmers as a cultural tool. That contrasts with the mentality of "citizens" urbanites, environmentalists and government officials, leading to serious problems of understanding and favours vengeance on the local population against what it considers harmful administrative measures.
