Zusammenfassung
This article presents the mental imago of Peru as reflected in the correspondence minen by viceroys as well as by individuals during the years Toribio Alfonso de Mogrovcjo was Archbishop of Lima. The corpus, which includes some letters sent by the said prelate, inform us of very different features of peruvian reality: the ideas of the land prior tu arrival, the impressions produced by territory and wild life, the prospects of social and economic improvement dile to mining, the daily way of life, etc. When studying the subjects of these letters wc distinguish two levels, official and colloquial, according to the addressees.
