Through of this paper we try to make a double attempt of research, taking as point of departure the status quaestionis represented by a pioneer and original researching work developed by C.L. Johnson: (a) the analysis of two specific focal constructions (identificational focus and informative focus) in Sumerian; (b) the significative value of some conjugational sumerian prefixes (*bi-;*mini-,*bi-;) when they fulfill pragmactic functions in certain typical constructions. The theoretical view for this research is focused on works with a functional and typological methodology whose content is going to be applied to a corpus data selected ad hoc from several philological classifications dated in Old Babylonian Period (ca. 2000-1600).
