Abstract
Assuming that the development of reading comprehension is the main objective of foreign language teaching for translators, this article looks in depth into the knowledge and skills that the student of French needs to acquire in the learning process. It defends a model of text analysis based in a functionalist view of language and a contrastive study of the French language.
