Abstract
The objective of this paper is to analyse whether collective bargaining (and specifically the signature of a collective agreement at a company level) has any positive effects on higher firm performance during the subsequent period, in reference to the industry what belongs to. We make several hypotheses about this issue derived from the most usual models that are used in firm literature, such as the agency theory or the stakeholder theory. Likewise, we analyse if there are distinctive factors featuring those firms which sign collective agreements. We use a sample including companies settled in Castilla y León. We employ profitability measures calculated from data obtained from the annual accounts. Our results show that there are several factors explaining the fact that a firm chooses to sign an agreement. We also find certain significant effects on higher corporate profitability.
