Abstract
By relying on textual analysis, this paper interrogates the most significant sequences of Jezebel (William Wyler, 1938). The aim of the paper is to approach the core of the melodramatic action that is carried out by the leading couple: why does Julie make the decision to wear a red gown to attend the emblematic Olympus dancing ball?, and why does Preston not use "the walking stick" to master this indomitable young lady? In short: where does the impossibility of the sexual dialectics between them rest?
