Resumen

Megalithic tombs in Central Iberia show evidence of the existence of social differentiation among the members of the Neolithic and Chalcolithic societies. Strategies used by some individuals to attain and keep status, such as the acquisition of prestige items and the utilization of architectural elements to separate spaces are examined here. The role of exchanges in the acquisition of those prestige items, showing a similar pattern to that observed elsewhere in Western Europe in the Late Neolithic, is assessed.
