Abstract

The first Museum of Fine Arts in Valladolid, founded after the Ecclesiastical Confiscations of Mendizábal, was set up into the ancient Colegio de Santa Cruz. The beginning of this Museum, which collected very important works of Castilian sculpture, was difficult for its newness, lack of money and the use of a building originally conceived for an academic purpose. The first Director, the painter Pedro González, worked as curator, conservator and author of the collection's catalog.
