Abstract

Granulomatous lesions are a common finding in pathological samples. The majority of the granulomas were due to sarcoidosis and infections. Tuberculosis is the most frequent infection in our area. However, aetiology could not be determined in most patients (42% in pulmonary granulomas). To approach granulomatosis we need a complete algorithm to guide the diagnosis. We begin with exhaustive history and physical examination. Laboratory and imaging test have only a minor importance in the diagnosis of granuloma's aetiology. Serology test could give us the diagnosis, especially in granulomatous lymphadenitis. Histology and microbiology procedures are the key to the diagnosis in most of the patients. They are able to rule-out the infectious diseases and to show the characteristic findings of the non-infectious ones.
